Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father's departure the family of Ford, they were managed by her grandmother, mom, and godparents. In her early years she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder, suffering anxiety related to the word association. Ford began performing in her teens, and was part of the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after just one week she realized that she was not a fit. Ford later applied to be a student in the Central School of Speech and Drama and was admitted on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford was able to graduate in 1993. However, she already had her TV debut in the 1992 episode Surgical Spirit. She adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate was seen in television programs including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning during the Nineties. Tate's regular involvement in the theatre led her to join The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. Tate received recognition for her stand-up comedy and has been added to her portfolio in the year 1996.
